My experience has been that most of us do not learn about emotion when we are young and in fact, likely get punished for displaying emotion. I believe this could put our emotional states "in the closet" so to speak. We live our adult lives with a belief it's not okay to feel certain feelings. This obviously doesn't work.
I like to help my clients learn about intense emotions coming in waves like on an ocean and how to notice body sensations which then escalate into undesired behaviors.
With a combination of CBT and DBT tools, I like to educate my clients about the purpose and necessity of all emotions and how to step away from feelings that could result in "problem behaviors" which only make things worse. Once we learn how to manage this phenomena, we can feel successful to move on to work on more difficult relationships in our adult lives that cause us trouble whether it be interpersonal familial, or work.

Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse, so touching to me to read the story of the early life of the Buddha. I learn more every time I read this book.
SPCA, I love animals!
Rosie is my dog, she's from New Zealand by way of Sydney and Santa Barbara. She was the only puppy born to a young mother and it was a miracle she made it. She's 9 now and likely the "love of my life."
