Therapy Style

I became a marriage and family therapist because I wanted a career that made use of my naturally compassionate and empathetic personality, while fulfilling my calling to help others. I recognize that the strength of the relationship between therapist and client is an important predictor of treatment success, and I enjoy building a unique and authentic relationship with each client, founded on trust and mutual respect.

I am trained and qualified to work with a variety of presenting concerns, and most enjoy adults, couples, and adolescents. I am especially gifted with highly sensitive individuals, who may have difficulty managing their emotions. This is sometimes due to trauma, or problems in “attachment” relationships, such as with one’s parents, family, partner, or close friends. I strive to help my clients learn how to identify their feelings, understand their needs, and manage their emotions more effectively. I also enjoy helping couples learn new ways of communicating, thereby improving their ability to care for one another.

During our first session, you can expect me to be relaxed, warm, and inviting. I will spend a good amount of time getting to know you, your background, and the issues you’re currently facing. I also welcome questions about my therapeutic style, and what you can expect from treatment.

Why did you become a mental health professional?

I became a mental health professional because I felt a strong draw toward helping people. I am very compassionate and empathic, and I noticed people would come to me to talk things through. It felt like a natural choice for me to pursue this field.

What are your interests outside of work?

My interests outside of work revolve around family and my animals - a dog, two cats, and a horse. I love spending time with family, whether it's gathering at home or vacationing! I also love anything outdoors in nature!

What is one thing you do daily that supports your well-being?

I practice mindfulness and I take time for self-care - doing things that make me feel refreshed and ready to face the day. I also engage in meaningful relationships.

Favorite organization/non-profit?

Anything supporting veterans or the environment. I'm vegan, so anything advocating for animals is important to me.

How do you recharge?

Spending time with family, my puppy, or by myself wrapped up in a good book or a TV show I'm binging!
