My Therapy Style

I meet the client where they're at. After assessing, I determine which therapy modality I will be using. I then inform the client of the reason why this modality will work for them. I also inform them, that I will or might be using several other skills such as to assist them.

Get to Know Me

Why did you become a mental health professional?

I had a therapist when I was 14 years old. My therapist helped me so much that he made such an impact on me at that time. I later decided that I also wanted to help others, just like he helped me.

What are your interests outside of work?

I like spending time with my family, going to the beach, and relaxing in my back yard.

What is one thing you do daily that supports your well-being?

Take a walk, and chat with a co-worker for 10 to 15 minutes during our walk. I eat at dinner with my spouse and watch a show.

What book have you read more than once?

Lover's Executioner by Irvin Yalom. Yalom provides examples of his cases, and he is clear about his transference. When I first read this book, I was surprised. As I learned more about countertransference, I respected him for being so honest and teaching us.

Favorite organization/non-profit?

I like Open Door Network. They are located in Bakersfield. They assist children and mostly females of sexual assault victims, and human trafficking. They provide classes to the community at low cost. They provide free mental health treatment and provide ongoing support when victims need to go to court.

How do you recharge?

I take mini vacations and go to the beach or stay at home and relax with my spouse and dogs.
