Why did you become a mental health professional?

My decision to become a mental health professional stems from my deep-rooted value for people and my genuine desire to help individuals become the best version of themselves and lead fulfilling, happy lives. As a Hispanic woman, I have firsthand experience with the cultural and systemic barriers that often hinder individuals from seeking the help they need. I understand the unique challenges faced by my community, and I am passionate about being part of the movement to bridge these gaps and advocate for the importance of mental health and overall well-being. By pursuing this career path, I aim to make a positive impact on the lives of others, while also working to dismantle the barriers that prevent individuals from accessing the support they need to thrive.

What is one thing you do daily that supports your well-being?

One of the most important daily practices I employ to nurture my mental and emotional well-being is cultivating an attitude of gratitude. Each day, I make a conscious effort to count my blessings and focus on the positive aspects of my life. Additionally, I pay close attention to my inner dialogue and strive to be mindful of the way I communicate with myself. I firmly believe in the power of the mind, and I recognize the importance of treating myself with kindness and self-compassion. By regularly engaging in these practices, I am able to maintain a healthy and balanced emotional state, which in turn supports my overall mental well-being.

Favorite organization/non-profit?

Postpartum Support International (PSI) is an organization that holds a special place in my heart. I deeply admire their mission and the tireless efforts they make to transform the lives of individuals struggling with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. PSI plays a crucial role in connecting the birthing community to essential resources and support, ensuring that no one feels alone or helpless during such a challenging time.

As a current board member and alliance representative for PSI, I actively participate in advocacy efforts to raise awareness about maternal mental health issues. I am passionate about being a change agent in this field, working to break down the stigma surrounding perinatal mental health and ensuring that all birthing individuals have access to the care and support they need.

Do you have any pets?

Yes, I am the proud owner of four wonderful dogs. Having them in my life brings me immense joy and comfort, and I find their presence to be truly therapeutic. One of my most cherished pet-related experiences was witnessing my dog giving birth to her puppies. It was a remarkable moment to observe her innate motherly instincts come to life as she cared for and nurtured her newborn pups. Watching the bond between a mother dog and her puppies develop and grow was a heartwarming and unforgettable experience that I will always treasure.
