Get to Know Me

Why did you become a mental health professional?

I became a mental health professional because I wanted to help others become their best selves. My journey began when my niece was diagnosed on the Autism spectrum, and I was struggling with my previous major in nursing. Although I always wanted to be in a helping profession, I discovered nursing was not the right fit for me. During my niece's diagnosis, the social worker provided incredible education and support, empowering my family every step of the way. That experience made me realize the profound impact of feeling safe and supported, and I knew I wanted to offer that same support to others through social work.

What are your interests outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, traveling, and occasionally binge-watching reality TV. These activities help me relax and recharge, allowing me to bring my best self to my clients.

What is one thing you do daily that supports your well-being?

Something I do daily is my evening routine. This is the time of day when all my responsibilities are over, and I take the time to journal and read while enjoying a cup of hot tea. This routine helps me relax and decompress from the day, allowing me to reflect and unwind.

What book have you read more than once?

A book I've read more than once is The Art of Holding Space: A Practice of Love, Liberation, and Leadership. It resonates deeply with me as it explores the profound practice of creating compassionate and supportive environments for others, aligning with my values as a mental health professional.

Favorite organization/non-profit?

One of my favorite organizations is Autism Family Services of New Jersey. As an aunt of a child on the spectrum, I can empathize with the struggles of accepting the diagnosis. However, I also understand that neurodiverse individuals can still achieve their goals with the right support and understanding. I value their mission to help families understand and support their loved ones on the spectrum, fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment for everyone involved.

How do you recharge?

By traveling and taking time off when needed to reset, I ensure that I can continue to bring my best self to every client I work with. These breaks allow me to recharge and maintain the energy and empathy required in my role as a mental health professional, ensuring that I provide effective support and care to those I serve.
