Get to Know Me

Why did you become a mental health professional?

I became a therapist driven by the belief in the transformative power of empathy and the "butterfly effect" — small, meaningful interventions can have profound impacts on a person's life. This conviction, coupled with my deep respect for the resilience and strength of the human spirit, motivated me to pursue a career where I could facilitate healing, growth, and empowerment. Therapy is not just my profession; it's a calling to ignite positive change, supporting individuals in harnessing their innate resilience to navigate life's challenges. This dedication to fostering resilience and witnessing its ripple effect on individuals and their communities is why I chose this path.

What are your interests outside of work?

Outside of work, my interests are deeply rooted in personal growth, creativity, and nature. I practice yoga regularly, finding it a vital source of physical and mental balance, and a way to stay connected with my inner self and the natural world. Reading and being a lifelong learner are central to my life; I'm constantly exploring new ideas and perspectives in psychology, philosophy, and beyond to fuel my personal and professional development. Creativity plays a significant role in my leisure time — I love attending art exhibits and music events, immersing myself in the creativity and expression found there. These interests not only enrich my life but also enhance my practice by broadening my understanding and empathy, underscoring my commitment to growth, learning, and the arts.

What is one thing you do daily that supports your well-being?

Every morning, I practice mindfulness meditation, (a routine that my dogs often like to join in on). This quiet time of reflection helps me start the day with calm and clarity, significantly improving how I manage stress and enhancing my empathy and awareness in daily interactions. It's a foundational routine that keeps me balanced and present (with the added joy of my pets' companionship).

What book have you read more than once?

The Whole Brain Child by Dan Siegel has been a great book that I have read more than once due to how much great information it has on parenting children. Also, Get Out of My Life, but First Could You Take Me and Cheryl to the Mall is another great parenting book resource as it relates to teenagers. Both books have helped me in raising my children, as well as helping countless clients navigate their parenting journeys as well.

Favorite organization/non-profit?

American Psychological Association for its many resources and dedication to advancing knowledge in the field of Psychology and supporting clinicians with up to date information and resources. My favorite non-profit is Habitat for Humanity for helping people have affordable housing and National Public Radio for providing news, arts and culture.

How do you recharge?

I recharge by having quiet down time, spending time with my animals, getting out in nature, practicing yoga, mindfulness, and being around people I love.

Do you have any pets?

I have two dogs and a cat. My favorite pet story has to be how cute my beagle looks when he puts his chin on the table and looks up at you with his big brown eyes and big floppy ears, and how my dedicated cat curls up by my side every night to sleep next to me.
