My Therapy Style

I have over 20 years of experience working with diverse populations who have a variety of presenting problems. While I am versed in numerous evidence based modalities, I most frequently utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I appreciate that ACT is a transdiagnostic approach with high success rates among clients who are limited to a few sessions as well as those who benefit from long term therapy. I also value ACT’s emphasis on helping clients learn concrete skills for managing distressing thoughts and feelings, including its mindfulness component. Additionally, the importance of the therapeutic relationship is not to be underestimated. I am often described by my clients as someone who is easy to open up to, warm, a good listener, supportive and someone with a good sense of humor.

Get to Know Me

What are your interests outside of work?

Being outdoors (hiking, backpacking, gardening), hot yoga, and spending time with my family.

What book have you read more than once?

The Happiness Trap by Russ Harris - I have read this book multiple times and often recommend it to others. There are so many useful strategies and perspectives in this book. I find that every time I rereading it, I come away with a great reminder or something I had previously missed.

How do you recharge?

Working on my garden and/or going on a hike.

Do you have any pets?

I currently have two cats, one dog, a bearded dragon, and a very old goldfish. Full disclaimer, some of these pets technically belong to other family members, but I still consider them mine. Some of my favorite pet stories include how my cats have taken care of me during very difficult periods in my life.
