My Therapy Style

Greetings! My name is Paul Surace and I've been working as a therapist in Southern, CA for the past 20 years. I want you to know that I'm a pretty straight-forward kind of communicator who really enjoys working with people who are seeking positive change in their lives, and are willing to work for it. I love to try and move people from surviving to thriving. I enjoy asking questions and actively listening in order to get to know my clients better and discover their gifts and strengths so that we can eventually use them to problem solve and get your goals met.

Education & Training

MA - Clinical Psychology, Antioch University

Get to Know Me

Why did you become a mental health professional?

Prior to entering the field of therapy, I had a very good experience doing therapy with my therapist that turned my life around in a positive way. After that, I decided that I would like to try and help others to experience the healthy changes and hopefulness that I experienced myself personally, and decided to go to graduate School to get my degree in Clinical Psychology.

What are your interests outside of work?

I enjoy creative writing and mostly write plays, but was previously employed by Walt Disney Company to write screenplays. I've published books and produced theatrical shows. I also enjoy pickleball!

What is one thing you do daily that supports your well-being?

I really enjoy walking on a daily basis and I get to the gym to lift light weights 2-3x per week. I also enjoy reading plays and traveling to visit my family on the East Coast.

What book have you read more than once?

Man's Search For Meaning because it grounds me and reminds me that there is meaning not only in creativeness and enjoyment-- but also in suffering. And that we are always free to choose our attitude in any given set of circumstances.

Favorite organization/non-profit?

Wounded Warriors which has been such a helpful organization for our Veterans. The suicide rate is horrible amongst our Vets and we need more non-profits like this one to help them.
