I may have knowledge and experience in therapeutic skills, but the client is the expert on their life and the issues they bring to therapy.

My Therapy Style

I utilize a collaborative approach to therapy. I may have knowledge and experience in therapeutic skills, but the client is the expert on their life and the issues they bring to therapy. It takes both of us to share our understanding to develop goals and create the change the client desires. I use strategies from a variety of different therapeutic theories, but I like to practice solution-focused strategies when possible. Sometimes we don't need to know a lot about the history of the problem to solve it.

Get to Know Me

Why did you become a mental health professional?

I was originally inspired to pursue this path by early experiences of loss and grief. I have remained in the field because I find it inspiring to learn about others' struggles and incredibly rewarding to be a part of the healing process.

What are your interests outside of work?

I enjoy traveling, especially to sunny places. I also like to cook and entertain friends.

What is one thing you do daily that supports your well-being?

I practice little moments of mindfulness throughout the day — even 5 minutes of appreciating the view out of my window can help keep me centered.

What book have you read more than once?

I have had Codependent No More on my bookshelf for many years. I find myself going back to it repeatedly, both for my personal inspiration and to share with clients.

Favorite organization/non-profit?

I have volunteered with AARP for several years. I am very passionate about addressing ageism and the issues older adults face in our society. I appreciate the advocacy this group does for older adults.

How do you recharge?

My favorite way to recharge is with a book, in the sun, by a body of water.

Do you have any pets?

I currently have a Norwegian forest cat/mix named Komiko. I previously had a rescue Greyhound named Joe, the sweetest 70-pound lap dog you can imagine.
